Disconnect Battery and Inspect Damage
Unscrew the bottom deck cover. Immediately unplug the main XT30 or XT60 battery power connector. Locate the three thick motor phase wires (typically Brown, Blue, and Yellow on Ninebot Max or Green, Blue, Yellow on Xiaomi). Inspect the clear OEM plastic sleeves — in 90% of Ninebot Max Error 18 cases, these sleeves will be melted, fused together, or charred black.

Cut Off OEM Bullet Connectors & Strip Insulation
Use flush cutters to cut off the factory bullet connectors roughly 10mm past the charred region. Strip approximately 4mm to 5mm of the silicone insulation using your wire stripper. Ensure you do not cut or shear any individual copper micro-strands. Twist the exposed strands tightly clockwise.

Pre-Tin the Wires and MR60 Terminals
Set your soldering iron to 375°C (700°F). Apply a small dab of flux paste to the exposed copper strands. Touch the chisel tip with fresh solder to the wire and allow capillary action to draw molten solder fully into the strands until saturated silver. Next, touch the solder tip to the cup of the Amass MR60 pin and fill each half-cup with a small reservoir of solder.

Solder Phase Wires to MR60 Connector
Slide your heat shrink tubing over the wires before soldering. Mate a sacrificial opposite-gender MR60 plug to your working plug (this acts as a heat sink to prevent the gold pins from shifting in the nylon housing). Heat the cup until the solder liquefies, insert the tinned wire, and remove the iron. Hold the wire completely motionless for 3 seconds until the joint solidifies with a mirror-shiny finish.

Insulate and Verify Circuit Integrity
Snap the protective plastic back-cover onto the MR60 housing, or slide dual-wall adhesive shrink tubing over the joints and heat with a heat gun until melted glue oozes from the ends. Plug the male and female MR60 connectors together matching phase colors (Yellow-Yellow, Blue-Blue, Brown/Green-Green). Perform a multimeter continuity check between adjacent pins to guarantee zero bridging shorts.

Why Bullet Connectors Fail & Why Amass MR60 is the Gold Standard
Electric micromobility vehicles operate in demanding thermal and mechanical environments. In an electric scooter, continuous vibration, moisture ingress, and repetitive high-current acceleration cycles push electrical interconnects to their physical limits. The single most common electrical failure in Segway-Ninebot Max and Xiaomi scooters is melted motor phase wiring.

Crucial Pro-Tip: The Heat Sink Mating Plug Hack
When soldering heavy gauge wires to MR60 or XT60 terminals, always plug a spare male/female connector into the connector you are soldering. Because you must apply intense heat, the nylon housing softens slightly. The mating plug locks the gold pins in precise alignment so they cannot shift out of parallel while cooling.
Testing and Pre-Ride Diagnostic Verification
Before sealing the deck lid with fresh silicone gasket sealant, perform these electrical bench checks:
- Short-Circuit Check: Set multimeter to Continuity mode (beep). Probe between Pin 1 and Pin 2, Pin 2 and Pin 3, and Pin 1 and Pin 3 on the disconnected motor side. Because motor stator coils have tiny resistance (0.1Ω - 0.3Ω), continuity is normal between phases, but ensure there is NO continuity between any phase pin and the scooter metal chassis frame (Ground).
- Controller Phase Test: Check resistance between each controller phase output and the battery negative terminal (B-). All three readings must measure identical high resistance (typically 10kΩ to 50kΩ) or diode drop (0.4V to 0.6V in Diode mode). If one phase reads 0Ω, the controller MOSFET is shorted.
- Low-Speed Bench Spin: Plug the battery back in, elevate the drive wheel in the air on a box or stand, and apply 10% throttle. The motor must spin smoothly with a quiet hum. If it shakes or vibrates, power off and check your phase color matching.
