Trust & Quality Standards

Editorial Guidelines

How we write, verify, and maintain our light electric vehicle DIY repair manuals.

DIYPEV.com is dedicated to providing high-quality, practical, and safety-focused light electric vehicle troubleshooting manuals. We understand that mistakes in high-voltage batteries, brakes, or speed controllers carry physical risk. Consequently, our writing team adheres to strict editorial standards.

1. Lab Verification & Testing Protocol

We do not publish regurgitated articles or product descriptions. Every repair guide or modification walkthrough is compiled by a technician who has performed that specific repair in our workshop.

  • We source OEM components and test fit them to standard frames.
  • We measure circuit pins using multimeters and oscilloscopes to check voltage behaviors.
  • We capture and document every step under realistic conditions (low-light garage setups).
  • We test mechanical modifications under load (street riding) to ensure longevity.

2. Factory Blueprint Cross-Referencing

When translating error codes (such as Segway-Ninebot and Xiaomi diagnostic flags), we consult official engineering manuals, factory blueprints, and BMS firmware codebases. We verify:

  • Voltage limits for battery cells and BMS trip points.
  • Manufacturer phase wire wiring schemes (Hall sensor positions).
  • Microcontroller parameters for motor control units (ESC).

3. Safety Warning Rules

We prioritize user safety. Guides involving high-current circuits (lithium soldering, controller swaps) or speed controls (throttle magnets, hydraulic brake bleeds) require highly visible safety alerts at the top and inline, detailing specific physical and fire hazards.

4. Product Review & Referral Policy

We list recommended parts and tools through affiliate links to AliExpress and Amazon. This helps support our lab costs. However, our technical recommendations are independent:

  • We do not accept paid product placements or sponsorships.
  • We only recommend components that we have installed and checked in our labs.
  • If a cheap aftermarket throttle fails our endurance test, we explicitly advise against it and recommend the OEM or reinforced version instead.

5. Correction & Update Policy

Light electric vehicles evolve, and custom firmware revisions are pushed regularly. If you find a better way to perform a repair, or spot a discrepancy in a pinout map, contact us at info@diypev.com. We will verify the information in our workshop and update the article immediately.
